A beneficial owner is a natural person who directly or indirectly owns or controls a company (usually more than 25% of shares or votes, or control by other means). This information matters for anti-money-laundering compliance, public procurement and simply for understanding who you are really dealing with.
Where this information is available
- Latvia — the Register of Enterprises publishes beneficial owners as open data.
- Estonia — RIK e-Business Register open data includes beneficial owners and the type of control.
- Lithuania — the beneficial ownership register (JANGIS) is not available as open data; member counts are available.
What is worth checking
- Is a beneficial owner declared at all, and does it match the ownership structure?
- Is the same person linked to other companies — especially liquidated or insolvent ones?
- Is the person on sanctions lists or the list of politically exposed persons (PEP)?
- Are there signs that the declared beneficial owner does not match reality (for example, register notes about a discrepancy)?
How to do it with Regmio
A company's full profile shows shareholders, stockholders and beneficial owners, as well as their related companies. People are automatically screened against international sanctions lists and a PEP list. A name match alone does not mean it is the same person — Regmio says so and also uses birth data where known.
